Three Awesome Pinwheel Block Tutorials

March 29, 2011 by Marguerita

I recently met (online, via her blog) Sandi of Piecemeal Quilts. She and her friend Jeanne have challenged each other to post some really useful tutorials on basic blocks in quilt making. They are starting with a Pinwheel Block and I have to say, it’s one of the best tutes I’ve seen on the internet.

What I like the absolute most is, they use different methods to attain the same block! Now that’s quilting! There are so many ways to do things in quilting. None are “the right way” or the “only way” and there’s only ONE best way – YOUR way – – the way that works best for you. 🙂

Kudos for them!

If you’d rather watch it in video, Jenny from the Missouri Star Quilt Company does a super job of showing yet another way here:

Eye Candy & Inspiration

July 11, 2010 by Marguerita

Quilters, I am not sure what you call it, but when I find a blog that makes me just scroll up and down, over and over, discovering something new, exciting and beautiful, I call that “eye candy”.

This blog is in Spanish, and was brought to my attention by my new friend Rita, who emailed me to tell me how much she likes my videos 🙂

Please check out Twinkle Patchwork if you are looking for something new, or just want a “pretty things” show. If you want to read it, and have Google translate the Spanish to English, consider downloading the Google Translator Toolbar – I love it and use it to help me communicate in several languages because I get comments on my videos from all over the world! Or, you can use this translation page to draft a message and then translate it to another language, which I sometimes do.

Either way, enjoy the site and if you like, comment and say “Hola” to Rita and that Marguerita sent you 😉

Need Help with your Sewing?

March 24, 2010 by Marguerita

Meet Debbie (from Ohio) of Squiggly Twigs Designs!

She emailed me (you know that I love email, right?) and she asked if she could use my video about chain piecing on her site. Of course I said yes, then immediately went to her blog to find out more about her. WOW!

She is offering FREE help for people with sewing issues!!

So, In addition to checking out her blog and seeing her great patterns (too cute for words) I read about how she’s helping people with sewing problems and I am impressed!

Her offer is only good for another week, so dig out that old pattern you were working on and drop her a note about the reason you tossed it into a drawer a year ago.

I love people who help others!! Yay Debbie!!

Great Visits

January 30, 2010 by Marguerita

I had some fun this morning, surfing the Quilt Designer’s Blog ring and I would like to share a few posts that I just loved. My friend Margaret has a post on smiles, I just love every single thing on Valerie’s Blog; I fell in love with Susan Pennoyer’s Heart Strings Pocket Purse; the beautiful pieced backing on Kate Conklin’s blog; I want Nancy Rink’s new quilt “Something New, Something Blue“; every time I visit Gudrun’s Blog I drool over her layout, designs and quilts; I love Anita’s Lone Star and the story behind it and I was totally cheered up on a dark morning by reading and looking at Ty Agle’s journal and paintings.

Diannia made her first Crazy Shortcut Quilt!

May 4, 2009 by Marguerita

It’s queen size (do you believe that – she’s new to quilting!) for her son Brad.

She and I have been emailing and chatting, sharing stories and ideas, and I think I am going to try and talk her into blogging…. (I am SO bad – I do that to *so many* quilters – -but when they blog I can keep up with them and their projects and their lives and I LOVE it!!!)

So, Diannia (prounounced Diana) lives in California, works for a University, has a son named Brad and she’s learning to love quilting. Now, don’t you want to know more? I do!

UPDATE!! – Diannia has a blog http://dianniashouse.blogspot.com/ Let’s go check it out!

Meet Judy

April 29, 2009 by Marguerita

My friend Judy Wedemeyer is a quilt artist. She’s also one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. I was a newbie to quilt pattern designing, about fifteen years ago, and she went out of her way to give me tips, business contacts, advice and encouragement when I thought I’d created “the next hot thing” in quilting. How nice is that!?

I want to be like her.

I also want to be a quilt artist someday and so I follow her around like a puppy, soaking up her art and her enthusiasm and pulling out my old attempts at quilt art and wondering if maybe I can do something really unique like she is.

Take a peek at her Art Cards, her studio, and her techniques on her blog and pull out your scraps and doo-dads and let’s follow her inspiration!

Meet Susan

April 8, 2009 by Marguerita

I met Susan through a Yahoo group that I belong to (Stashbusters) and I liked her from the first few lines of her post:

“I just wanted to share what I’ve been doing with some of the scraps members have been sending me. This Quilt of Valor has scraps from New York, Louisiana, Montana, Indiana and Ohio! How cool is that–put together for one Soldier.”

If you follow the link to her blog you will see that she also loves (and made!) one of the Confetti Quilts and hers is gorgeous!

I have met some great quilters and wonderful people on the internet and I’d like to introduce some of them to you too. I think you might like them 🙂
