Marguerita’s Quilt Lectures, Demos, Workshops

Marguerita McManus at Quilt Show

My specialty is quilt–as–you–go and my books are well reviewed and popular with beginner and experienced quilters because when the project is complete they have a FINISHED quilt! My techniques can be adapted to fit many types of quilting, from crazy quilting to UFO’s—I’d love to show you how!

I am passionate about ergonomics and comfort for sewing and quilting and I invented an inexpensive solution that works for all sewing machines. Wouldn’t your guild members benefit from seeing it?

If I will be in your area and your guild or group would like a class, please email me at MMQuilts @ gmail.com

Quilt As You Go Workshops

DollQuiltI have a single day class called “Doll in One”. It’s all about techniques and this class covers it all, in one little doll quilt.

You’ll learn the crazy cutting techniques, how to use your decorative stitches to do the quilting, the critical 3–point trimming, the full joining process and a machine binding with my “pretty corners”. At the end of the class you will have a full understanding of my very popular quilt–as–you–go techniques and a cute little doll quilt.

Crazy Shortcake Quilt by Marguerita McManusMy most popular class is the 2 day Crazy Shortcake Class. A crib or lap size quilt made from one layer cake (10″ x 10″ squares) and 1 yard of fabric.

This quilt can be finished in a 2 day workshop and it covers the crazy cutting, layering and machine quilting using decorative stitches, the 3-point check for trimming, full joining of blocks and rows, and a machine binding with “pretty corners”.

Quilt As You Go – A Progression of Techniques Trunk Show

How I used quilt-as-you-go to make fat quarter crazy quilts using the decorative stitches of the sewing machine; to finish UFO’s; to make T-shirt Quilts; to create modern looking quilts; and to make Layer Cake Quilts. This trunk show consists of 20+ quilts from all of my books plus several unpublished quilts.

Comfort Lecture and Demo

The ONE thing that makes ALL the difference in machine quilting is a flat surface to support the quilt. ALL quilters need to learn how to take care of their bodies while sewing. A comfortable fit for your sewing area is as important as comfortable walking shoes—and (just as with shoes) there is no such thing as “one size fits all”.

My lecture and demonstration is of the largest, most innovative, inexpensive, unique, adaptable, custom fitted, ergonomically correct solution to create a perfectly flat, smooth, slick quilting surface that fits every single sewing machine . I talk about the three most important factors for creating an ergonomically correct sewing area and all of its customizable options.

You’ll hear about my journey to find a properly fitted table and some surprising benefits to having one like mine. You’ll come away with enough information to be able to create your own custom table in an hour or less, from materials sold at home improvement stores, using NO power tools.
