Awesome Amy!

My friend Amy has posted another beautiful Crazy Shortcut Quilt on her blog. Take a peek!

Meet Wendy….

…and her Crazy Shortcut Quilt :)

I love those colors, they remind me of spring. I love how she says her backing reminds her of watermelon!

T-Shirt Quilts and more :)

Crovette Quilt 1I love quilt stories and Judy sent me hers:

Corvette Quilt 3

Here are pictures of the two quilts I made using your quilting method with tee shirts that club members gave me. The two pictures with the yellow corvette in the center is the one Bob won and we donated to the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY. The other is also made by your method and won by a club member. I made these two quilts an three afghans, which we raffled off at our club picnic. We raised $245. that day and Bob, husband, added another $5. The club matched the money and we donated $500. to our local Ronald McDonald House in Danville, PA. Your method worked very well for this project and everyone loved the quilts. If you happen to get to Bowling Green and stop at the museum, I hope they have it displayed somewhere for you to see. If we ever get to Alaska, we’ll look you up! I’d love to meet you and your videos are great too by the way. Judy

I also added two quilts to the Gallery – one from Jan and one from Jennifer and both just gorgeous!

First Place!

Our dear friend Kathy Harte mentors young girls in their sewing. Here’s her email to me from just a few minutes ago:

Hi Marguerita and Sarah – I’m so excited about some great – exciting fantastic news ! ! ! I had 5 students last school year who completed their wildly beautiful “Crazy Shortcut Quilts.” Two of my girls just called to let me know….

Tyanna Baker took First Place, and Grand Champion in her age group (12 years old) for the king size quilt she made ! ! ! ! !

Christina Baker took 2nd place in the 9 year old category for her lap size quilt ! ! ! !

The girls’ Mom will e-mail pictures of the girls with their masterpieces, and I’ll forward those on to you….

AND….. I’ve got everything documented from start to finish on my computer… if you like, I’ll burn CDs for you so you can see what all the girls did using your book as our guide.

I’m soooooo proud of them and am doing the happy dance ! Just thought you’d like to know :-) YAY YAY YAY

Love to you both,
Kath

I am so excited for these girls – to have won recognition for their hard work really is so wonderful and for Kathy to see their success, well, that is the highest reward for a wonderful teacher!

Sashing Your Squares

Hi Quilters! I get a few emails every now and then about the sashing on our quilt as you go style of quiltmaking, and I re-read the book (thanks to my friend Phyllis at Patchwork Plus in Virginia!) and I want to clarify something for all of you experienced quilters!

We use a “true” 1/4″ seam or even a FAT quarter inch seam when sewing on our sashing strips! Here’s a short video I made about it, with a little teaser at the end :)

Now, the reason I said “experienced quilters” is because of the precise piecing requirement of a scant 1/4″ seam that much of traditional quilt piecing uses. Beginners don’t know about this and they never have a problem, but experienced quilters will often use a scant 1/4″ seam out of habit, and then they are disappointed with how the sashing finishes up.

Of course, being experienced quilters, they quickly realize that a fast pass, with a wider seam, fixes everything and they keep quilting right along! Many, many thanks to Phyllis at Patchwork Plus for helping me see that this could be explained better! :)

Mystery Donor

You angel! Thank you for your donation to Charity:water!

I am working on 3 projects that I want to use to both provide new products to quilters AND to generate revenue to causes that I believe in: water and micro-loans.

I have been investigating Kiva.org and I love what they are doing, however I would also like to participate in either a women-only micro-loan program or a United States based micro-loan program.  I intend to tie my future quilting endeavors to those programs, but I want to chose several projects to invest in.

Do you have suggestions on which ones you prefer or recommend? I would love to learn more and value anything anyone has to say!

A New Crazy Shortcut Quilt

shortcakeI made a new page!  See it up there?  New CSCQ Patterns!  Whoo Hooo!  This one (you may have seen it on the old blog, but it got lost in the posts) is called Crazy Shortcake Quilt and it is based upon those goofy new pre-cuts that Moda and other fabric companies are selling.  BUT, you don’t need precuts to do it!  You can use scraps, or cut some yardage, whatever you like!

This cutie went together in a weekend, and used 40 10″x10″ squares plus one yard for sashing and binding.  Finishing out at 36″x45″ it’s the perfect baby, child, lap size quilt.

Have fun and watch for more patterns coming soon!  And now, on the new site, they have their own page – - yay!
